Many early warning signs can be seen from the ground, from a window or with binoculars.
Shingles and tiles
Look for missing pieces, lifted corners, curling, cracked tiles or areas that look different from the rest of the roof.
Valleys and low spots
Check valleys and flat transitions for debris buildup, ponding or staining that might indicate slow drainage.
Interior clues
Inside, keep an eye out for new ceiling stains, bubbling paint or musty smells after rain.
If you see more than one of these signs, it may be time for a closer inspection.
